Purpose before partner
A woman should be a companion on your mission, never the mission itself.
When a man has no purpose, a woman becomes his purpose. He pours everything into her, studies her moods, and rearranges his life around her. It feels like devotion. To her it often feels like pressure, and the relationship buckles under the weight.
Why purpose comes first
A man with purpose has something to offer besides himself. He has a direction she can join, a story she can be part of, and a steadiness that does not depend on her approval. That steadiness is what she has been testing for.
How to find your purpose
Purpose is rarely discovered in one moment. It is usually built from a few questions answered honestly over time:
- What problems do I care about solving?
- What am I good at, or willing to get good at?
- Who do I want to serve?
- What would I regret never attempting?
For a man of faith, one question sits above the rest: what is God asking of me? Jesus told us to seek God's kingdom first, and the rest of life falls into place beneath it: career, family, and relationships.
Signs a woman has become your purpose
- Your mood rises and falls with her texts.
- You have dropped hobbies, friends, or goals since meeting her.
- You make decisions mainly to keep her happy.
- You feel lost when she is busy.
If these sound familiar, you have not failed. You have put her in a place no person can hold. Gently move her back to the place of partner, and put your purpose back at the center.
Purpose and dating together
Purpose does not mean postponing love until everything is perfect. It means dating as a man who is going somewhere. Ask her about her own purpose too. The best relationships are two people with direction choosing to walk the same road.
